Project Journals

Welcome to the central archive of Jacqueline Rolls’ written notes, field research, and project logs. This space tracks the ongoing, loose exploration of real-world subjects, specific locations, and found objects.

Select a category below to explore the background narratives, site notes, and textural discoveries that inform each body of work.

Many of these journal entries directly expand on the objects and contexts discussed in my interviews elsewhere. To hear these topics discussed in conversation, please visit the Films page.

The creative journey behind Jacqueline Rolls’ site-responsive work is rooted in immersion, observation, and tactile discovery. These Project Journals offer an open, reflective look into her creative process as it unfolds in real time.

Rather than presenting a polished final plan, these entries document the raw, behind-the-scenes reality of her research-led residencies and collaborative programmes. They record the exact moments spent slowing down within a space, capturing fleeting details through photography, and experimenting loosely in the studio.

By pulling back the curtain on her practice, these journals track how immersive real-world experiences—whether exploring a sprawling landscape or focusing on the contours of a single stone—gradually spark and shape her separate, abstract natural sculptures.
